The criteria that should be considered when selecting an ear cleaner include the type of discharge whether it is ceruminous or muco-purulent; the state of the canal whether it is or is not ulcerated and the presence or absence of the tymnpanic membrane. This lecture will discuss the different components of different ear cleaning solutions and which are suitable for particular conditions.

This lecture will discuss assessment of chronic change to assess if damage is reversible or irreversible needing surgery and discuss the ways in which topical and systemic therapy can be used to improve the quality of the canal.
